Angelo De Augustine annoncerer nyt album – Angel in Plainclothes ude d. 24. april
Med sit nye album Angel in Plainclothes – der udkommer d. 24/4 på Asthmatic Kitty / Playground Music – deler Angelo De Augustine en flere-år-lang rejse gennem heling og nyskabelse. Efter at han i start-2022 kollapsede og blev indlagt på hospitalet med en udiagnosticeret sygdom, har den Californien-baserede singer-songwriter gået igennem en hård genoptræning af sin gang, talen, syn, hørelse, og at spille musik og synge igen; evner som de fleste tager for givet. Da han endelig blev i stand til at lave musik igen, har De Augustine budt andre velkomne ind i sin kreative proces for den første gang i årevis. Resultatet er et ærbødigt album - hans mest inspirerede og kraftfulde hidtil.
Angelo De Augustine er en respekteret sangskriver, som i starten af sin karriere har opbygget et kultpublikum, inden han udvidede til et bredere offentligt publikum med sit 2019-album Tomb, og sit fællesalbum med Sufjan Stevens fra 2021, A Beginner's Mind. Sidenhen har De Augustine fundet sig selv i et helt nyt emotionelt rum i sin tilgang til den kommende udgivelse.
“When I made Toil and Trouble I was in a really bad state, having just been released from the hospital and only about halfway through the recording of the album. I had accepted that I was going to die and that I should do all I could to finish the record,” siger De Augustine. “I didn't believe that I was going to survive the illness, let alone ever make music again. The experience unfortunately broke me and everything that I thought that I knew or could count on.”
For at markere albumannonceringen udgiver Angelo De Augustine i dag førstesinglen ‘Mirror Mirror’.
Om sangen fortæller han: ”Usually when I make music, I’ll sit down with one instrument and write the song. In ‘Mirror Mirror,’ I didn't stick to this principle and was messing around with the tape machine’s varispeed function- seeing what would happen if I slowed down what I’d recorded on the bowed psaltery, creating an unusual droning noise.”
