Alice Cooper annoncerer sit nye studiealbum Detroit Stories – en hyldest til sin hjemby

Fredag d. 26. februar 2021 markerer dagen for udgivelsen af Alice Coopers nye studiealbum Detroit Stories, der udkommer på earMUSIC / Playground Music. Første smagsprøve fra det kommende album kommer på fredag d 13. november, hvor Cooper udgiver singlen ’Rock ’n’ Roll’.
 
Detroit Stories, der er opkaldt efter Alice Coopers hjemby, følger op på sidste års Breadcrumbs EP, og er en moderne hyldest til den tungeste og vildeste rock’n’roll scene, der nogensinde har eksisteret.  Nemlig den i Detroit!
 
I 1970 trådte produceren Bob Ezrin ind i et bondehus i udkanten af Detroit for at arbejde med Alice Coopers band. Alice Cooper havde efterladt flower-power-Los Angeles, fordi de i bandet var den diametrale modsætning til hippie-fred og kærlighedsidealet. Alice bragte bandet tilbage til sit fødested, til den legendariske rockscene hvor hard rock, garage rock, soul, funk, punk og meget mere, blev født. Ezrin og bandet arbejdede her i ti timer om dagen for at definere deres signatur-lyd.
 
"Detroit was Heavy Rock central then,” fortæller Alice, “You’d play the Eastown and it would be Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, the Stooges and the Who, for $4! The next weekend at the Grande it was MC5, Brownsville Station and Fleetwood Mac, or Savoy Brown or the Small Faces. You couldn’t be a soft-rock band or you’d get your ass kicked."
 
“Los Angeles had its sound with The Doors, Love and Buffalo Springfield. San Francisco had the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. New York had The Rascals and The Velvet Underground. But Detroit was the birthplace of angry hard rock. After not fitting in anywhere in the US (musically or image wise) Detroit was the only place that recognized the Alice Cooper guitar driven, hard rock sound and our crazy stage show. Detroit was a haven for the outcasts. And when they found out I was born in East Detroit... we were home.”
 
50 år senere har Alice og Ezrin samlet nogle legendariske Detroit-musikere i et Detroit studie for at indspille Detroit Stories – Alice Coopers nye album, der hylder rock-ånden i en ny æra.
 
"We recorded with Wayne Kramer (guitarist and writer from the MC5), Johnny “Bee” Badanjek (drums - from the legendary Detroit Wheels), Paul Randolph (legendary Detroit jazz and R&B bassist) as well as the Motor City Horns and other local musicians,” fortæller Ezrin, "We had musical ideas and encouragement from John Varvatos, the support of the folks at Shinola, and we recorded at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak. This was Made In Detroit for Detroit by Detroit denizens!”
